Remarkably, Dr. Tasheema Fair has not only excelled in one of the most demanding professions in the world as a trusted physician and surgeon, but she has also embraced a proud family tradition of military service. Her journey began with a background in military healthcare, including a stint at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. Both her father and grandfather served in the military, instilling in her a deep sense of pride in continuing their legacy.
Reflecting on her path, Tasheema says, "I got into medical school, and my dad encouraged me to look at the army as a way to pay for school. So, in 2002, I commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Reserves, and while I was going to school, the Army helped me pay for it. After residency, I went on to active duty as an active duty doctor in the army. I'm actually the first doctor in my immediate family."
While her father and grandfather pursued different paths within the military, they always supported Tasheema's aspirations. She believes that both men are looking down from heaven and they are immensely proud of her accomplishments.
Tasheema brings the same passion to medicine that her grandfather, a notable jazz artist, had for music (learn more about him in "Ladydoc Lifestyle" episode one.) She emphasizes the importance of health and nutrition as a form of preventative medicine, explaining, "You're either fueling your body with what's healthy or you're feeding a disease."
